Incremental rotary encoder failure judgment

Rotary encoder is used to measure the rotational speed of device and photoelectric rotary encoder through the photoelectric conversion, output angular displacement, angular velocity can be transformed into corresponding mechanical quantities such as electrical impulses to digital output. It is divided into single output and dual output two kinds.

The fault test

1. The offline. Encoder on 24 v power supply, its channel voltage is measured with a multimeter, in the process of manual rotation turn, if the six channels are in low level changes the voltage, can preliminary judgment encoder is good

2. Online. Waveform oscilloscope are used to observe the running encoder, good if each channel encoder waveform burr is overmuch, can judge the encoder has a problem.

Use the maintenance

1. The encoder and the installation of the motor shaft coupling quality directly affects the accuracy of the test motor speed, coupling installation too loose, too tight, different heart, deformation, etc will cause speed waveform appear burr, lead to system instability.

2. Voltage matching, if the encoder voltage and motor control system, sampling pulse encoder information input voltage does not match the amplification board, may cause the encoder to damage.

3. Equipped with protective parts, internal encoder for more precision electronic components, electronic components easily influenced by environment, leading to encoder failure. So can be equipped with protection device, the encoder can not only protect electronic components, can also have the effect of dust.

A rotary encoder, can measure the distance from a few microns to a few hundreds of meters. Multiple work position, as long as chooses a rotary encoder, you can avoid using multiple close to switches, photoelectric switch, solve the mechanical installation trouble, are easy to be damaged and by high temperature, moisture and other issues.
