Potentiometer displacement sensor,
 Displacement sensor, which through the potentiometer components will be converted into mechanical displacement into a linear or arbitrary function of the resistance or voltage output. Ordinary linear potentiometers and circular potentiometers can be used as linear displacement and angular displacement sensors, respectively. However, the potentiometer designed to achieve the purpose of measuring the displacement requires a definite relationship between the displacement change and the resistance change.
The movable brush of the potentiometer displacement sensor is connected with the measured object.
The displacement of the object causes the resistance of the movable end of the potentiometer to change. The change in resistance reflects the magnitude of the displacement, and the increase or decrease in resistance indicates the direction of the displacement. Typically, the supply voltage is applied to the potentiometer to convert the resistance change to a voltage output. Wirewound potentiometer because of its brush movement resistance to turn resistance for the ladder changes, the output characteristics are also stepped. If this displacement sensor is used as a displacement feedback element in the servo system, an excessive step voltage causes the system to oscillate. So the potentiometer in the production should be minimized the resistance of each turn. Another major drawback of potentiometer sensors is ease of wear. Its advantages are: simple structure, the output signal, easy to use, low prices.
