How do encoders mount?!

Encoder bearings and installation options

Most (although not all, of course) of the optical and magnetic encoders are supported by bearings allow the shaft to turn, while allowing the encoder housing (In some cases, the electronics and sensors, the code disc or wheel normally encapsulated) remains move. These bearings can withstand high loads, and should not be exposed to extreme shock, vibration, system-wide load, or arising from the dislocation.
The relationship between the load and bearing life are:

Where n = bearing life and revolutionary • C = dynamic capacity (from manufacturer's data) • P = bearing load, lb • LH = bearing design life, hours. Bearing life is roughly inversely proportional to the third power load. Bearing assembly tolerances can be established to allow their use at a higher speed, at 30,000 revolutions per minute.
However, if the encoder is hard mounted to the engine shaft and encoder housing is mounted to a hard substrate, experience lateral load bearing assembly does several hundred pounds.

Mechanical contact encoders using an etching brush copper pads on the circuit board (encoding position information) and that is crossed and conductive (and non-conductive) region.
Although not discussed in depth in the study guide ESTA, mechanical encoder suitable for slow-moving or angle detection applications at startup.

Standard encoders incorporate their own shaft and bearing assembly. Or at very low cost miniature encoders, sometimes adhesive fixed hub bearings, vibration will result in failure, though here. More generally, the encoder shaft and motor shaft coupled by a belt, gear train or coupled. For the latter, rotary encoders and precise alignment of the axis of the drive it is not possible, so flexible coupling often used.
Manufacturers offer detailed guide properly installed.

In contrast, the hollow hole (also called hollow shaft) encoder precision glide and grip to the shaft, can be directly connected via a floating mount to the engine frame.
Plus a good help to retain the encoder precision and extending bearing life proper fit between holes and shafts bent bracket.

Standard and hollow shaft encoder is called strong.

The term modular and kit in reference to mean different things to different rotary encoder according to the manufacturer, but in both, locking disc or joint fixed wheel shaft. The sensitivity of the engine shaft runout and axial movement can be a problem, and in the optical encoder, can play a significant push the disc into the optical device.
Encoder other modules fully contained, self-protection shield package to install the engine shaft.

In recent years, many manufacturers have increased their encoder bearing size, carry more payload, longer life. In some cases, this bearing assembly in the peripheral sensor electronics so that the opposite side of a slightly bulky design solid case, but a presentation that can withstand significant radial and axial loads, impact to 500g durable shaft preload
state, and - 40 to + 100 ℃.

Elsewhere, ceramic ball bearings (for the isolation of housing and shaft encoder between) to prevent the AC motor and generator shaft current construction - especially for VFD-driven design.
Otherwise, the spurious flow through an encoder housing or parasitic shaft currents to ground to ground causes of bearing rollers and seat discharge machining (and failed).

Note that even rolling ABEC 7 bearings have an error of about 22 arc seconds. Each round of encoder counts more than five resolutions reflected in the form of a position error of ESTA bearing noise.
Thermal mismatch between the components of the bearing assembly to match past performance and will reduce life expectancy.

Some heavy casting on the encoder housing allows the length of the shaft between the bearings to extend, allowing a second encoder centrifugal switch or a mechanical installation.
The device will trigger an action when more than a specified limit; independent of the first electronic system, which provides extreme security applications requiring redundancy.

Note that if the encoder extends into a high-traffic areas may be damaged: such as a hammer or a forklift vehicle; if close to the ground level, the encoder can be seen as a useful step. Here, a cage or shield provide acceptable protection.
